If you are ever curious as to what we have done during the school day with our laptops, you can find it on this site! If you go under the tab "Reading" or the tab "Math" and click the button that says today's date, you can see all the sites that we have used and all that we have done during the day. Check it out sometime, or even better, ask your child to show you! These laptops will be a great way for you to check up on how your child is doing, and also for your child to teach you something!

This week, we worked on retelling stories with sequence words such as first, next, then, and last. Early in the week, we watched a short Pixar Clip and did a "sequence walk" to practice our skills and collaborate ideas. We soon found the importance of finding the most important points when retelling a story. By Friday, we were ready to "build" our knowledge about sequencing with LEGOS!!! The students from Mrs. Cripe's, Mrs. Hawkins', and our class worked together to make their own story scene with legos. After creating their visual story, they then created the sequence of their story, using their lego design as inspiration. Finally, they used their sequence outline to help them create detailed and creative stories! The kids had a blast! It was so fun to see where their creativity took them! Problem solving is a huge component of our learning in advanced math. After discussing what it means to problem solve and how to act as we problem solve with other people, we put our skills to the test! This week we have been practicing number sense, and the students had fun modeling their knowledge with the place value blocks. Our classroom technology came in handy as the students presented their thinking and demonstrated how they used the manipulatives in front of the class. I can't wait to watch my math students expand their learning with problem solving this year! This week we are working on using context clues to help determine unknown words as we read. We have already learned about some helpful hints that can make learning new words in a book really simple! Today we became "word detectives" and solved a mystery by finding the meanings of new words by using our helpful hints (context clues). We also practiced using context clues in our own writing as we made up our own words and used our helpful hints to determine the meanings of the new words. Here are some pictures of everyone hard at work! |
