This week we are working on using context clues to help determine unknown words as we read. We have already learned about some helpful hints that can make learning new words in a book really simple! Today we became "word detectives" and solved a mystery by finding the meanings of new words by using our helpful hints (context clues). We also practiced using context clues in our own writing as we made up our own words and used our helpful hints to determine the meanings of the new words. Here are some pictures of everyone hard at work!
What a wonderful first day! I am so pumped to spend an entire school year with these kids! Just a few thoughts after today:
My name is Amber DeYoung, and I am a second year teacher at South Newton Elementary. I graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington with a degree in Elementary Education and an additional license in Middle School Mathematics. I also have received my state license to teach 9-12 Mathematics, so I am K-12 certified! However, third grade is where my heart is :). I am so excited to start this year and meet my new students!
This blog will be the place to go if you are interested in what is going on in the classroom. With the new one-to-one initiative, I am extremely excited to immerse the students in technology and showcase our learning throughout the year! I will also place announcements on here of dates or events that may be important to parents, students, and community members. I will try my best to blog on a weekly basis! I can't wait to start a new year! Let's make it a great one! |
Ms. DeYoungI am a third grade educator at SNES. This blog will let you find out about what is going on in our school, and see what we are learning and doing in our classroom! Archives
