Today is our first E-Learning Day. Please make sure to email me with any questions that you have about the packet. Here are a few reminders:
After reading the story Penguin Chick, we are so excited to be researching penguins! The students have been working hard to research penguins and to gather information for our final project! Ask your child about what they have been learning, and take a look at our "Reading" tab to see all the digital facts that we have already collected!
If you do have any penguin resources (books, magazines, pictures, etc.), these would be greatly appreciated for our class to use! We need as many resources as we can get our hands on so that way we become penguin EXPERTS! I cannot thank you enough for all that you do for your child!! Conferences gave me an opportunity to hear your concerns and goals for your child. I greatly appreciate the time that you took out of your day to come to conferences last Thursday. The students did a fantastic job at showing their digital data and I feel we all left the conference with a better idea of where to head next with your child's education. I enjoy working as a team with parents and students so that we all are working toward the same goal.
On that note, please feel free to contact me throughout the year. The more we communicate, the more we can both make sure that we are doing what is best for your child! Let's continue to make this a wonderful year!
I cannot believe September is already (almost) over. We have improved so much since the beginning of the school year! Over the past month, we have worked on sequencing, comparing and contrasting, and author's purpose. In math, we have been building our problem solving stamina! (Check out the pictures below to see a bit of what we have been doing!) A few Reminders:
Our laptops are here!!! Thursday was such an exciting day! By Friday, we were already using Google Classroom, Google Docs, and a forum on our class website! How cool. I am so proud of my students for showing how responsible they can be and for being so excited about learning. Seeing those kids be so excited about learning and technology served as one of the many daily reminders of why my job is amazing. I truly cannot wait to see what this year brings. If you are ever curious as to what we have done during the school day with our laptops, you can find it on this site! If you go under the tab "Reading" or the tab "Math" and click the button that says today's date, you can see all the sites that we have used and all that we have done during the day. Check it out sometime, or even better, ask your child to show you! These laptops will be a great way for you to check up on how your child is doing, and also for your child to teach you something! This week, we worked on retelling stories with sequence words such as first, next, then, and last. Early in the week, we watched a short Pixar Clip and did a "sequence walk" to practice our skills and collaborate ideas. We soon found the importance of finding the most important points when retelling a story. By Friday, we were ready to "build" our knowledge about sequencing with LEGOS!!! The students from Mrs. Cripe's, Mrs. Hawkins', and our class worked together to make their own story scene with legos. After creating their visual story, they then created the sequence of their story, using their lego design as inspiration. Finally, they used their sequence outline to help them create detailed and creative stories! The kids had a blast! It was so fun to see where their creativity took them! Problem solving is a huge component of our learning in advanced math. After discussing what it means to problem solve and how to act as we problem solve with other people, we put our skills to the test! This week we have been practicing number sense, and the students had fun modeling their knowledge with the place value blocks. Our classroom technology came in handy as the students presented their thinking and demonstrated how they used the manipulatives in front of the class. I can't wait to watch my math students expand their learning with problem solving this year! Here are a few reminders for this upcoming week:
